For Therapists

Do you have a client who appears to be at a plateau in their treatment ? Perhaps you have a sense you
are not as effective as you would like to be with your clients. Do you wonder if your current
approach is a "good fit" with your client or perhaps you and your client have wandered away
from their treatment goals. If you thought about any of these possibilities.......read on and
see how we can help you jump start your interactions with your clients.

As a therapist, I understand how challenging it can be to develop a trusting relationship
in order to move through pain, past traumas and shame. The horses are a key part of the
treatment team; and, as do therapists and facilitators, they bring to the session their own
personalities and history. Their behaviors are interpreted by the client through their own set
of emotions and behaviors, providing insight into feelings they may not otherwise be disclosed.
In this way, Equine Assisted Mental Health breaks down defensive barriers.

Equine Assisted Mental Health increases the ability to bond. As we know, many adults and
children are reluctant to sit down in a traditional setting and talk about their problems and feelings.
Many have been in and out of traditional treatment settings and have not experienced a feeling of
success or sustained behavioral changes.  Equine Assisted Mental Health keeps the client engaged.
They become an active participant in all of the activities as well as their treatment plan. Our
clients have fun as they figure out what is they want to change and learn how to develop new
coping skills. Equine Assisted Mental Health allows for direct observation of behaviors, emotional
responses and patterns. The experiential nature of Equine Assisted Mental Health provides an
ideal compliment to traditional therapy.
